Perma-Bound Books is seeking 2 full-time professional Catalogers for our Cataloging Services Department in our Jacksonville, Illinois office location.

This position requires a thorough knowledge of cataloging, classification procedures, and bibliographic resources.

Candidates will be required to possess a working knowledge of cataloging standards to include AACR2, Dewey, LCSH, MARC formats, as well as being familiar with RDA.

Duties will consist primarily of general cataloging work, dealing with a variety of materials, formats and subjects. Cataloging of digital resources and unique materials will be important aspects of the position.

Education/Experience:

  • Coursework in cataloging or equivalent cataloging work experience

Computer Programmer

( This is not a remote position; relocation or commute required )

Perma-Bound Books is actively seeking a Computer Programmer with knowledge of RPG programming to play a critical role in development, maintenance, and enhancement of RPG applications in our organization. Our Computer Programmers are responsible for designing, coding, testing, and debugging RPG programs while ensuring their functionality and performance. While this role is mainly focused on PRG programming, there will be opportunities to participate in other internal software development work as well. The Programmer will also participate in establishing standards and monitoring programming adherence to those standards.

This position involves but is not limited to:

  • Developing and maintaining RPG programs to support business operations. This includes program design, coding, testing, and debugging.
  • Working with business stakeholders in various departments to gather requirements and understand needs and specifications.
  • Designing and implementing efficient and scalable RPG programs while ensuring optimal performance and usability.
  • Analyzing existing PRG programs to identify areas for improvement and recommend enhancements or modifications to meet ever-changing business needs.
  • Collaborating with other programmers to write clear and concise program documentation, including program specifications, user manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Performing unit testing and system integration testing to ensure accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the RPG programs.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving software defects, system errors, and user-reported issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborating with IT team members to identify and implement best practices for internal software development and maintenance.
  • Using knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to help build and maintain internal web-based user interfaces.
  • Monitoring emerging trends and technologies in RPG programming and related fields to propose innovative solutions to enhance system efficiency and functionality.
  • Adhering to professional coding standards and ethics, quality-assurance best practices, and change-management procedures.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in RPG programming with a strong understanding of RPG programming languages (RPG IV, RPG Free, and RPGLE).
  • Proficiency in using IBM iSeries (AS400) and related tools such as Rational Developer for i(RDi), PDM (Program Development Manager), SEU (Source Entity Utility) and git.
  • Solid knowledge of database concepts and SQL for database interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and business stakeholders.
  • Detail orientation with emphasis on delivering high-quality error-free code.
  • Familiarity with other programming languages, such as Java; node.js is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team environment.

Collection Development Librarian

( This is not a remote position; relocation or commute required )

Perma-Bound Books is seeking a Collection Development Librarian. This positions involves but is not limited to:

  • Act as a reliable library resource for customers, Perma-Bound Sales Reps, and Peers with questions regarding Library Collections.
  • Develop & Maintain basic, balanced opening day collections for Elementary, Middle, & High School Levels for our website. There are four cumulative collections for each level to address four different budgets.
  • Work directly with customers and Perma-Bound Sales Reps to build custom Library & Classroom collections.
  • Manage Collections Work Queue program (CVD)
  • Build various types of collections: Balanced Opening Day Collections, CAP Collections, Leveled Collections, Genre Collections, Subject Collections, Specialized Collections, Etc.
  • Interface with Peers to collaborate resources and manage time sensitive marketing projects that require our assistance in building collections. (Catalogs, Brochures, Web Facing Materials)
  • Stay current with trends in Libraries and Curriculum through approved Webinars and Conferences, and online training.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • MLS Certification
  • Teaching Certificate with experience in Library Services
  • Professional Organization Memberships preferred
  • Peer Organizations related to Library Services preferred
